December 2015: UAA Department of Music hosts variety of performances

The winter season offers many delights, including a full slate of concerts and performance by students and faculty in the UAA Department of Music. This week alone, there are three opportunities to enjoy live music on campus. Come out to support these talented musicians.

Jazz Week Benefit Concert Wednesday, Dec. 2, 7:30 p.m. Fine Arts Building, Room 150

The UAA Department of Music presents the third concert in its annual Jazz Week Benefit Concert Series. This end-of-the-semester concert will feature UAA student instrumentalists and vocalists in Jazz Combo and the UAA Jazz Ensemble. Selections will include pop, Latin, funk and standard jazz repertoire. Tickets are on sale now at UAATix.com.

University Singers & University Sinfonia Saturday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m. Fine Arts Building, Room 150

University Sinfonia, conducted by Dr. Wilkins, and University Singers, conducted by Dr. Grant Cochran, present their joint annual Winter Concert.

The University Singers are doing a collection of sacred and secular pieces, including a number of different settings of the "Ave Maria" text. The University Sinfonia will be presenting Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" with narration. The violin soloists are Marie Neilson ("Spring"), Harrison Jennings ("Summer"), Tremaine Chisholm ("Autumn") and Katie Wasko ("Winter").

UAA Guitar Ensemble Sunday, Dec. 6, 4 p.m. Fine Arts Building, Room 150

University Guitar Ensemble will present an afternoon of guitar chamber music. The program will include a wide variety of styles, from baroque music of Johann Sebastian Bach and South American tangoes to jazz and Christmas carols. Tickets are on sale now at UAATix.com.
