Five international awards and recognitions for Professor Landry Signé

UAA Political Science Professor Landry Signé has recently received five international awards and recognitions.

Professor Signé was recognized as a 2015 Archbishop TUTU (Nobel Prize winner) Leadership Fellow by the African Leadership Institute and the University of Oxford. This award is bestowed to "Africa's highest potential," the finest representatives of the "generation that drives the transformation of Africa." Professor Signé also received the very prestigious executive certificate in leadership from the Saïd School of Business of the University of Oxford.

The World Bank and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania bestowed the Idea for Action's Honorable Mention to Professor Landry Signé and his research assistant, UAA political science student Matthieu Ostrander, for the innovative policy proposal submitted during the Idea for Action global competition, which included 130 countries competing and "26,000 individuals who in very different ways engaged in the I4A initiative."

Princeton University's Political Science Professor Leonard Wantchekon, president and founder of the African School of Economics, invited Professor Signé to join the faculty of the first edition of the Summer Institute for Economic Research. It "aims at facilitating training and collaborative research as well as policy engagement involving African academics and policy makers." (The invitation was received Nov. 5, 2015, and accepted Dec. 1, 2015.)

The United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of Human Habitat, Dr. Joan Clos has recently appointed Professor Signé to serve on a newly created global network promoting digital technologies to help implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Professor Signé met with Dr. Clos during the founding event on Nov. 16, 2015, in Barcelona, Spain.

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which supports freedom around the world (more than 90 countries), re-appointed Professor Landry Signé (on Nov. 2, 2015) to participate in the prestigious 2016-17 Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program application review. Professor Signé will be in charge of the regions of Central and the Horn of Africa.
