The UAA Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation (HPER) is working with the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame and other health-related partners throughout Alaska to offer the Positive Leadership for Active Alaskan Youth (PLAAY) Summit, Feb. 19-20, at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage.

The PLAAY Summit provides teachers, parents, nurses, coaches, administrators and other leaders of youth with a conference to address the areas of adolescent health with emphasis on the importance of physical activity as a means to improve teenage health.

The event will feature Dan Bigley, author of Beyond the Bear, as the keynote speaker. Workshops will be offered by health experts from throughout the state, including HPER faculty members Jean Marcey and Maryann Hoke. The event is $150 but a special price of $50 is available to UAA students. For registration and workshop information, visit the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame website or download a flier.
