Sept. 30, 2016: John Lutterman explores 'Paths to Bach' in cello recital

J.S. Bach is justly famous for having created a magical world-half-heard, half-imagined-in his six suites for unaccompanied cello. But Bach was drawing on a rich, if little-known, tradition of music for solo viola da gamba and cello that was already centuries old when his suites were written. John Lutterman's Paths to Bach explores this tradition, culminating in a performance of Bach's monumental D Major Suite, BWV 1012, written for a cello a cinque cordes (with five strings). Tickets are on sale now at UAATix.com. Parking at UAA is free on Fridays.
