Thursday, Oct. 6, 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) Fine Arts Building, Room 150

The Backbenchers' Bowl is a public exhibition debate pitting three Seawolf Debate alums against three current team members! This is a fundraiser for the team, hosted in cooperation with the Friends of Seawolf Debate alumni group. The name "Backbenchers' Bowl" draws inspiration from British parliament, and the backbenchers' rowdy rhetorical style of discourse.

The topic for this event is: "The American Republic will never recover from the 2016 Election."

The format is going to be 3v3, with six-minute speeches and a four-minute final summary. There will also be a period for questions from the audience. In a never-before-seen twist, the audience will also get to vote on whom they would like to see give the rebuttal speech from either side!

We will also moderate and take questions from social media, so that alums outside of Anchorage (or even outside of Alaska) can participate if they tune in via an online video stream, which will be posted on the Seawolf Debate page at seawolfdebate.com.

Admission is $10 for general admission, $5 for UAA students or alumni. Tickets are available at UAATix.com.

This event is part of UAA Homecoming 2016.
