History of UAA Employee Wellness program

Fall 2015
- UAA Staff Council approached HPER with a request for on-site wellness activities.
- Needs assessment conducted.
- Wellness breaks were designed and implemented by students in PEP 456 - Contemporary Health Issues.
Locations reached: 9 Participants: 84
Spring 2016- An evaluation survey was sent to participants. The results showed the pilot was a success with requests for another semester.
- A Wellness Program Coordinator intern was introduced who worked with students from PEP 453 Health Promotion to lead wellness breaks.
Locations reached: 7 Participants: 66
Summer 2016- A new student intern kept the program going during the summer with the help of two wellness leaders, a volunteer and a part-time paid student employee.
Locations reached: 6 Participants: 43
Fall 2016- A third student intern introduced new marketing channels to reach more employees.
Locations reached: 10 Participants: 122
Spring 2017- The intern from Fall 2016 was hired by HPER as a temporary part-time Wellness Coordinator.
- We introduced Outdoor Wellness Breaks led by students in PEP 264 - Recreation Program Planning and Evaluation, along with regular wellness breaks.
Locations reached: 10 Participants: 133
Summer 2017- The Wellness Program remained present by distributing Wellness Exercise Books and by leading wellness breaks for two groups.
- An Exercise Book reached Mat-Su campus.
Locations reached: 7 Participants: 20 (from the two groups)
Fall 2017- A request from the Army Corps of Engineers on JBER expanded the wellness programs services outside of UAA.
- We also introduced three Nutrition Workshops led by students from the Dietetics and Nutrition program, expanding our wellness program offerings.
Locations reached: 6 Participants: 63
Spring 2018- A full-time Employee Wellness Practicum Coordinator was hired by HPER to grow the UAA Employee Wellness Program.
