University Advancement appoints Brian Ibsen as director of philanthropy

The Office of University Advancement has appointed Brian Ibsen as its new director of philanthropy.

Ibsen comes to UAA with 25 years of experience in higher education fundraising campaigns and programs. He was chief development officer for The Aga Khan University in Chicago, Pakistan and East Africa. Ibsen has held fundraising and development roles at flagship universities such as the University of Connecticut and University of New Mexico as well as private universities like the University of Chicago and Clark University. He has extensive experience working successfully with faculty and deans, as well as with presidents and provosts, at both public and private universities. He has worked in every phase of the fundraising cycle surrounding annual, special, major and principal gifts.

Ibsen has also served as a consultant for SDG Resources with clients ranging from NGOs and foundations in Ethiopia, Senegal, South Africa and the U.S., building fundraising capacity and infrastructure, mentoring resource and business development, as well as principal and major gift development, and evaluation and measurement of fundraising achievement.

Ibsen earned his B.A. in history from Yale University, and holds an M.A. in teaching from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education.
