UAA celebrates Homecoming 2018 Oct. 6-12!Homecoming Spirit Competition The 2018 Homecoming Committee invites all students to get involved this year and celebrate Homecoming with us at UAA. All recognized student organizations, clubs, residence halls, and sports teams are encouraged to participate in this year's Spirit Competition. Student organization teams will compete against one another in a variety of events throughout the week and have the opportunity to become the 2018 Homecoming Champions. 2018 Homecoming Champions will win a $1,000 prize which will be added to their organization accounts. Homecoming Royalty Nominations The UAA Homecoming Royalty recognizes two student leaders (of any gender) who, through their leadership, involvement, and commitment, have made significant contributions to campus life. Homecoming Royalty will be awarded based off a point system which includes attendance to the Homecoming Dance, interviewing with the Homecoming Royalty Advisory Committee, and Student Voting. Homecoming Office Decoration Staff and faculty: Sign up your department to compete the UAA Office Decoration Competition. This year's Homecoming theme is "carnival" so break out the popcorn maker and hear the "ooo's" and 'ahh's' from the audience as your decorations put on a show. Gather your creative team to plan ideas because decorating will begin on Monday, October 1 and close on Friday, Oct. 5. Judging will begin the following Monday, Oct. 8. UAA Hockey Game and Tailgater Oct. 6, 6 p.m. | Sullivan Arena Come to the Sullivan Arena and enjoy a pre-game tailgate with free BBQ! Then check out the Seawolves hockey game! During half-time, the Homecoming Week Royalty Court will be crowned during half-time.

UAA Hockey vs. Colorado College Saturday, Oct. 6, 7:07 p.m. / Sunday, Oct. 7, 5:07 p.m. Sullivan Arena

UAA will host former WCHA foe Colorado College in the season and home opener. Both games are free for UAA students. General admission tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com and Sullivan Arena Box Office.

Shopping Cart Parade Oct. 8, 5 p.m. | Student Union A time honored tradition, UAA's Shopping Cart Parade has showcased carts built like anything from airplanes, board games, and tanks. Come check out these paragons of creativity and innovation created by students and staff alike!

Are you interested in creating a shopping cart parade float? UAA departments may sign up and get more information about rules and logistics at tinyurl.com/2018uaacarts. Student groups can also participate to receive Spirit Points for the week-long Homecoming Spirit Competition (sign up for the Spirit Competition at tinyurl.com/2018uaahomecoming)-or just sign up for fun! Decoration will begin Oct. 1 and be available until Oct. 8 when the parade begins!

Homecoming Canned Food Drive Oct. 8-11 | Student Union, Den The Daily Den will be accepting canned food donations throughout the week of Homecoming. These canned food items will be donated to the Food Bank of Alaska & UAA's Emergency Food Cache. Individuals may drop off donations between 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. in the Student Union Den. The UAA Emergency Food Cache will accept individually packaged products such as Macaroni & Cheese, Cereal, Ramen & Noodle Bowls, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Instant Coffee, Canned Meats, Canned Fruit, and Canned Soup. The Food Bank of Alaska will accept canned items, including tuna, chicken, pork, beans, spinach, mixed vegetables, tomato sauce, and fruit. No other items can be accepted.

Student groups can also receive Spirit Points for donations - 1 point for every 5 items donated!

Minute To Win It Gameshow Oct. 8, 7 p.m. | Student Union, Den Check out the Minute To Win It Gameshow. Play a series of minute long games with friends for the chance to win big. All students are welcome to participate. Participating student groups in the Spirit Competition can also receive Spirit Points for winning the competition.

Lipsync Battle Oct. 9, 7 p.m. | Fine Arts Building Come to this performance-based competition. Teams of up to ten individuals will choreograph and perform to their favorite song! All students are welcome to participate. Participating student groups in the Spirit Competition can also receive Spirit Points for winning the competition. To compete, sign up at tinyurl.com/2018uaalips by October 5th, 2018 at 5:00PM. The Lip-sync Battle is free to students and the general public.

The Greatest Showman Movie Oct. 10, 7 p.m. | Student Union, Cafeteria In celebration of this year's Homecoming theme, check out The Greatest Showman. Come enjoy free food, snacks, and door prizes.

A Cappella Festivella Oct. 11, 7:30 p.m. | Wendy Williamson Auditorium UAA Concert Board is proud to announce the 25th A Cappella Festivella, featuring Musae. Muse is home to contestant's of NBC's "The Sing-Off," former ICCA competitors, and skilled music teacher and practitioners, the ensemble is a testament to the strength and dynamism of female voices in an a cappella setting. Tickets: UAA Students - $5 in advance ($10 at the door); UAA Staff, Faculty, Alumni, and Youth (under 17) - $15 in advance ($20 at the door); and General Public - $20 in advance ($25 at the door). Tickets are available at UAATix.com or the Student Union Info Desk.

Homecoming Dance Oct. 12, 9 p.m. | Dena'ina Center USUAA will be hosting their annual Homecoming Dance from 9pm to 1am at the Dena'Ina Center in downtown Anchorage. It will be a fun evening of dancing, carnival games, a photo booth, and more! Homecoming Royalty will be crowned at the dance, and the Homecoming Spirit Competition winners will be presented with their $1,000 check at this time. Student tickets are $15 in advance ($20 at the door), and guest tickets are $20 in advance (and $25 at the door). Student IDs are required for UAA students and guests need a valid state ID.
