Professor Emeritus George Geistauts passes away

by Michelle Saport  |

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. George Geistauts, Professor Emeritus of Business Administration. After close to 40 years at UAA, Professor Geistauts is leaving behind a legacy of teaching, scholarship and service that is commensurate with the size of Alaska, his beloved adoptive home. During his tenure at UAA, he taught and mentored several generations of students, many who serve in leadership positions in the state and worldwide. He served as chair/director of the MBA program for fifteen years, he was one of the faculty champions for the Alaska Native Organizational Management program, he served as chair of the University Honors Council, and he conducted research that influenced policy development in Alaska in the 1970s. In recognition to his service to UAA and to the state of Alaska, Professor Geistauts received faculty emeritus status in 2016. He passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019. In accordance to his final wishes, there will not be a funeral or memorial service.
