University of Alaska Anchorage Director of Athletics Greg Myford has announced the hiring of Ryan Swartwood as Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs.

"I am thrilled to join the UAA athletics team under the leadership of Greg Myford," said Swartwood. "Chio, my wife, and I are excited to become members of the UAA community and to make Anchorage our home."

Swartwood comes to UAA after serving as the Associate Athletic Director for Administration at Cal State Northridge.

"Like our Seawolf sports teams, UAA Athletics wants to fill our administrative roster with people who bring proven talent, success, leadership and spirit to our organization," said Director of Athletics Greg Myford. "Ryan has all of that, along with a firm understanding of how athletics serves the broader mission of the university. He will be an instant contributor in our continued efforts to focus on the fundamentals, professionally manage our daily work and clearly communicate with our audiences. In college athletic terms, we've landed a top recruit."

During his time at Northridge, Swartwood managed and supervised the areas of contract administration and the operation of the athletics facilities. He handled oversight of the sports medicine and sports performance areas and was a sport program administrator for multiple programs.

Prior to his time at Northridge, Swartwood worked in the compliance office at the University of Oklahoma for three years and was a legal intern with the Oakland Raiders.

Swartwood earned a bachelor's degree in history from San Diego State University, a master's degree in adult and higher education from the University of Oklahoma and a juris doctorate from Arizona State University.
