Providence Drive re-opens to traffic following culvert replacement

Update - Oct. 22, 2019: Construction on Providence Drive is now complete, and the road has reopened to traffic. Huge thanks to the Municipality of Anchorage for finishing up before the snow flies! Watch this video to see a "before and after" of the roadwork.

Chancellor Sandeen and Mayor BerkowitzeDear UAA Community,

I have an important update for you about an all-lane road closure that will take place on Providence Drive between Spirit Drive and UAA Drive. Starting Sept. 3, the Municipality of Anchorage will completely replace the old steel culverts beneath the road with a new, concrete box culvert. This is critical for safety for motorists. Because Chester Creek is also an active salmon habitat, the municipality will divert the creek during the construction project, which will take about six weeks and run through mid-October.

Seawolves, if we can survive a 7.1 earthquake, we can get through this, too. We're resilient!

Thanks for your patience.

Sincerely,
Cathy Sandeen
UAA Chancellor
