by Michelle Saport |
The University of Alaska Board of Regents will hold an emergency board meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7.
The board will meet to discuss concerns raised in the recent letter from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and determine how to proceed.
The Board of Regents meeting will be held in Butrovich 109 on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. The meeting will be livestreamed at alaska.edu/bor/live.
The meeting agenda can be found at alaska.edu/bor and updates regarding the process can be found at alaska.edu/newua.
Background: The NWCCU letter raised concerns regarding university governance, specifically the roles and responsibilities of the regents, president, and chancellors, and the inclusivity of decision-making processes regarding university structure. The letter raised no concerns about the quality of academic and research programs at the three separately accredited universities within the University of Alaska system. In a letter to the university community on Sept. 27, the board, president and chancellors replied that they will work together to ensure full compliance with NWCCU standards.
