Fall 2019: Staff Council Mentorship Program
by Michelle Saport |
Staff Council is excited to introduce a new mentoring program that allows staff to connect with other staff members and engage in peer-to-peer professional development.
Existing UAA employees can grow their network on campus, develop interpersonal communication skills, and help positively impact the on-boarding of staff. New UAA employees can develop their understanding in a specific skill, network with other UAA employees, and grow their confidence in navigating UAA.
The Staff Council mentorship program offers two distinct opportunities for mentoring:
- Staff members who desire to share their specific areas of expertise, can engage in a one-on-one mentoring sessions with a new employee. Staff Council will match interested mentors and mentees based upon information submitted in the online mentorship registration form. One-on-one mentoring provides the most flexibility for mentors and mentees as both parties work together to establish a meeting time and location. Mentoring sessions can occur in a single session or through a series of sessions, and is determined by both the mentor and mentee. Mentors and mentees must adhere to the basic mentoring guidelines outlined by Staff Council.
- Staff members can also engage in a monthly brown bag, one-hour, lunch session hosted by Staff Council. These sessions are facilitated by Staff Council and purpose to support networking, help new employees navigate UAA resources, and provide an open Q&A for existing staff to share their knowledge with new employees. This opportunity is open to all staff (new and existing) and is a great way to step out of the office and meet new people.
- Please join us Thursday, Dec. 19, 1-2 p.m. in EIB 413 for the next Brown Bag lunch.
