New UA COVID-19 statewide guidance

by Cathy Sandeen, UAA Chancellor  |

Dear UAA Community,

Earlier today, the University of Alaska COVID-19 Incident Management Team amended the COVID-19 information website to note how statewide guidance on travel, campus entry and student testing has been updated to reflect new health orders implemented by the state of Alaska. I encourage you to review the changes outlined in this UA statewide communication to remain informed about how the university system is aligning with state guidance.

Some stricter guidance in place at UAA
I do want to point out this guidance is overarching for all campuses and affords each university the flexibility to implement stricter guidelines based on local conditions. For UAA, this includes things like surges in case counts and Anchorage municipal emergency orders. At this time, UAA will continue to follow existing testing requirements among our campus residential communities. Students living on campus should follow guidance from the Office of Residence Life.

Thanksgiving travel
As you consider your Thanksgiving plans, please keep in mind how travel outside Alaska may affect your ability to access campus, particularly for those attending face-to-face courses. Please continue to keep CDC guidance in mind as you celebrate with loved ones.

Reporting COVID-19
We continue to exercise vigilance to prevent the presence of COVID-19 in UAA facilities. Please continue to report any COVID-19 positive cases to UAA Environmental Health & Safety via email or phone at 907-205-6941.

COVID-19 has brought many challenges, Seawolves. Let’s continue to follow public health guidance and do all we can to keep ourselves, our families and our communities healthy.

Sincerely,
Cathy Sandeen
UAA Chancellor
