Artificial intelligence in the financial world: CBPP AI webinar series #2

by UAA College of Business and Public Policy  |

The College of Business and Public Policy continues its webinar series on artificial intelligence on Wednesday, Feb. 17 from noon to 1 p.m. with “AI in Finance: Opportunities and Limitations.” Dr. Anureet Saxena, director of quantitative research at McKinley Capital Management, will discuss the role of AI in making investment decisions.

The financial industry has experienced dramatic shifts over the last few decades as technology has impacted nearly every aspect of how people manage their money — from bill paying to loans to investments.

It has also opened up the globe to financial companies like McKinley Capital Management (MCM), which was founded by Bob Gillam in 1990. At the time, Anchorage was seen as an unlikely place for an asset management company due to its location far from well-known financial centers. The company capitalized on technology both to overcome geographical barriers and to analyze investment opportunities.

Today, under the direction of CEO/CIO Robert Gillam, MCM is an industry leader in global growth investing. It uses artificial intelligence to analyze billions of data points every day, assessing more than 50,000 stocks in more than 100 countries on behalf of individual and institutional clients such as the Alaska Permanent Fund.

Learn more about how MCM harnesses artificial intelligence during the Feb. 17 webinar. Dr. Saxena’s presentation will focus on the interaction between data science and investment management under the three-step process of identification, forecasting and optimization, and how AI techniques can improve each step.
