All Alaskans 16+ now eligible for COVID-19 vaccination

On March 9, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced that, effective immediately, all Alaskans age 16 and over are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Alaska is the first state in the nation to make vaccination available to all members of the public.

This is great news for our university communities. The sooner we get a large proportion of our population vaccinated, the sooner the epidemic will end and the sooner we can resume more in-person activities, classes and work. Please encourage your friends and family members to get vaccinated.

Any students or employees age 16 and over who want to be vaccinated should visit the state’s vaccine provider locator page to find open appointments in their community. You can sign up online or call the helpline listed on the page. Don’t be discouraged if you can’t get an appointment immediately. The state is hoping to make a large number of appointments available in the coming weeks, so keep checking back.

Please remember that until more people in our state are vaccinated, it’s important to continue practicing COVID-19 safety measures: Wear a mask, avoid gatherings of people outside your household, stay 6 feet away from others and wash your hands frequently. Remaining vigilant now will allow all of us to be together in person sooner.
