UAA announces new Onboarding Manager

by Bruce Schultz, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs  |

Dear UAA Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce the hiring of an Onboarding Manager for UAA.

Ahmbra Austin will join us August 2 as the UAA Onboarding Manager, a new term position that will develop a robust onboarding program for UAA employees from the moment an offer is accepted by a new employee through their initial months of employment. There has been strong interest for such a program here at UAA for many years and I am especially appreciative of the UAA Staff Council for advocating for this approach.

Ahmbra comes to UAA from California State University San Marcos (CSUSM), where she has worked for the past seven years. Most recently she served as the Assessment and Development Analyst for the Division of Student Affairs. In this role, Ahmbra oversaw a professional development program serving all staff on campus. In addition to onboarding services, the program focused on personal and professional development opportunities, staff appreciation and networking, and community building. Ahmbra has a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Point Loma Nazarene University as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from the Design Institute of San Diego and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Justice Studies from CSUSM.

As the UAA Onboarding Manager, Ahmbra will be responsible for the development process and implementation of an onboarding program that will include:

  • Establishing desired outcomes of a UAA employee onboarding program by engaging key stakeholders at UAA,
  • Mapping out current processes across the university, and identifying the business value of an onboarding program.
  • Developing a UAA onboarding stakeholders team and developing its project goals and timelines.
  • Developing a pre-boarding program that ensures incoming employees are welcomed and prepared for their first day of work.
  • Creating a training and mentor program that addresses the training needs of new employees and incorporates appropriate assessments and timelines.
  • Constructing a formal feedback system for new hires and supervisors to reflect on their onboarding experiences.

Ahmbra steps into this new role with extensive experience and a proven track record of building up campus communities through creative and enthusiastic methods.

Please join me in welcoming Ahmbra to UAA!

I would also like to thank the search committee who helped with the recruitment process:

  • Kerry Davis, Office Manager & HR Coordinator, Residence LIfe, Committee Chair
  • Amber Christensen Fullmer, Director, Native Student Services
  • Tania Rowe, Program Assistant, Shared Services
  • Ben Shier, Interim Chief Information Office/Associate Vice Chancellor, Information Technology Services
  • Sarah Shives, Employer Relations Coordinator, Career Services

With their dedication to the process, this search was successful.

Sincerely,
Bruce Schultz, Ed.D.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
