New leadership hires within Administrative Services

by Bill Jacob, Interim Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services  |

Dear UAA Community,

It is my pleasure to share two exciting announcements within Administrative Services. After a competitive search process, Justin Atteberry has been hired as executive director of Shared Services. Additionally, Ben Shier has been named chief information officer (CIO) after serving in this role in an interim capacity since December 2019.

Justin most recently served as senior director of operations for Southcentral Foundation in Anchorage. His experience also includes serving as director of catering for Sodexho Management at Virginia Commonwealth University. He holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Arts in economics, both from Pacific Lutheran University. The members of the search committee, and myself, were impressed by Justin's deep experience, his organized approach to change and his vision for shared services at UAA.

I am also pleased to announce Ben Shier’s appointment as permanent CIO. Over the past two years, Ben has played a significant role in developing strong partnerships across UAA units while fostering collaboration, technology improvements and educational transformations for the university. Prior to UAA, Ben held information technology leadership positions for the State of Alaska, the governor’s office and the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education. He holds a Bachelor of Science in information technology and a Master of Public Administration degree, both from the University of Alaska system.

Please join me in welcoming Justin to UAA and congratulating Ben on his permanent appointment. Their leadership will be instrumental in advancing critical Administrative Services projects and initiatives that support our students, faculty and staff.
