Memorial Day: Honoring the fallen

by Sean Parnell, UAA Chancellor  |

Dear UAA Community,

Monday, May 30, we commemorate Memorial Day to honor the military service members who have served our nation and fallen in the line of duty. As we prepare for the long weekend, we remember and honor their ultimate sacrifice and thank their families and other loved ones who have so personally and directly borne their loss.

Living in a state with so many veterans, service members and military families, I am honored to lead a university with a long tradition of supporting our military members and their families. For the 13th consecutive year, UAA has been recognized as a top-tier military-friendly school. We are dedicated to providing outstanding educational opportunities to our military and veteran students and their families.

While the Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer for Alaskans across the state, I hope you safely enjoy the long weekend whether you are heading out on our local trails, highways or waterways.

Thank you for all you are and all you do. I look forward to seeing you all after the Memorial Day weekend when we reopen campus on Tuesday.

With gratitude,
Sean Parnell
UAA Chancellor
