Seawolves No. 3 in West Region rankings

by Green & Gold News  |

The Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball team finds itself in strong playoff position heading into the final two games of the regular season, premiering Wednesday at No. 3 in the initial NCAA Division II West Region rankings.

With a 21-3 record against D-II competition, the Seawolves (24-3 overall, 15-1 GNAC) are one of four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams among the top 10 in the West, along with No. 4 Montana State Billings (22-5), No. 5 Central Washington (20-6) and No. 10 Western Washington (16-9).

The league tournament champions from the GNAC, Pac West Conference and California Collegiate Athletic Association earn automatic berths to the NCAA West Regional Championships, along with the next five highest ranked teams at the conclusion of the season. The regional rankings will be released once more — on Wednesday, Mar. 5 — prior to the announcement of the national playoff field on March 9.

The Seawolves can clinch the outright GNAC title and No. 1 seed for the March 6-8 GNAC Tournament with one victory or one MSU Billings loss this week. UAA plays Thursday (4:15 p.m. AST) at Western Oregon and Saturday (2 p.m. AST) at Saint Martin’s, with live video and stats links for both games available at GoSeawolves.com.
