This two-credit course, taught by Mary Jo Finney, offers practical, hands-on training in Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes to help students and faculty understand both the ethical foundations and regulatory requirements of conducting research with human participants. Through historical case studies and contemporary ethical dilemmas, participants will gain a clear understanding of why IRB oversight is essential for responsible research. Planning to submit a research protocol for IRB review? This course will guide you through the process. By blending theory with practice, IRB Essentials provides a balanced approach to research ethics and compliance. Students will leave equipped to design and conduct research that meets ethical standards and regulatory guidelines in academic and professional settings.
