The Kaare Birkeland Norweigan USA Exchange Scholarship is available in alternating years to support one UAA student to study at the University of Stavanger (UiS) in southwestern Norway. For the 2017-18 academic year, the award amount will be $4,000 for one semester or $8,000 for the year. Applications are due by Monday, April 3. Contact Leslie Tuovinen at latuovinen@uaa.alaska.edu to obtain an application.

The University of Stavanger welcomes students from all over the world. It is situated in one of the most attractive cities in the country on the southwestern coast and enrolls approximately 10,100 students. The number of international study programs taught in English at the University of Stavanger is constantly growing, making it an attractive choice for students in certain fields. The city of Stavanger has some 125,000 inhabitants. Stavanger is the oil and energy capital in Norway with a dynamic job market and exciting culture and leisure activities. It is the fourth largest city in Norway.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be a full-time, degree-seeking UAA student
  • Be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA and a clean disciplinary and financial record
  • Financial need is considered

Preference is given to students who are motivated, and demonstrate academic and leadership potential. Students may have any major or class standing.
