Applications are now available for Spring 2020 Commencement or Graduate Hooding Ceremony speaker and Leadership Honors. All applicants must be graduating in Spring 2020 and the deadline to apply is Friday, March 6 at 11:59 p.m.

Student Commencement Speaker

The Student Commencement Speaker offers an address during the fall commencement ceremony and serves as the representatives of the graduating class. Providing the student address during this important university event is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class, reflect upon the past few years, and convey a message for the future. Along with notable members of the UAA and UA community, as well as other important Alaskan representatives, the Student Commencement Speaker participates in pre-commencement activities and is seated on the main stage during the program. The graduate student speaker will address the graduate hooding ceremony.

Leadership Honors

Leadership Honors are awarded to individuals upon graduation to recognize and honor their leadership contributions to the University of Alaska Anchorage and Anchorage community while maintaining academic excellence. Leadership activities and involvement must promote individual and collective growth, demonstrate increased engagement with the community at UAA and beyond, and showcase commitment to citizenship. Recipients of UAA Leadership Honors are commemorated at the fall or spring commencement ceremony, bestowed crimson honor cords, and receive a permanent notation on their academic transcript.
