Expressing gratitude on Veterans Day

by Cathy Sandeen, UAA Chancellor  |

Dear UAA Community,

Today is Veterans Day, and I am reminded of the important contributions veterans make to our city, state and nation each and every day. About 1 in 10 members of the Anchorage community is a veteran.

At UAA, veterans are essential. They are professors, students, staff members and alumni. Across UAA’s campuses throughout Southcentral Alaska, active-duty military, National Guard and Reserve personnel, veterans, and their immediate family members make up more than 18% of our student body.

UAA takes great pride in the fact we have been named a Military Friendly® School for the 12th year in a row. We are also one of 104 campuses across the United States that houses a VetSuccess on Campus program. Through our Military Programs, we offer services and courses to students on JBER.

As we reflect on this day, we acknowledge the importance of veterans to our country and their contributions to our community. As you consider those within your social circles, please take time to express your gratitude. Although the COVID-19 pandemic limits our face-to-face interactions, we can still connect in other ways. Holidays like Veterans Day offer the perfect opportunity to extend thanks to our family, friends and neighbors who have served.

Sincerely,
Cathy Sandeen
UAA Chancellor
