April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

by UAA Office of Equity and Compliance  |

April is recognized nationally as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Office of Equity and Compliance would like to recognize this month by increasing awareness and knowledge in our university community.

Federal Title IX regulations were amended in late 2020, and because of that, our own policies had to be changed which included many definitions. The prohibited conduct of sexual assault falls under Board of Regent's Policy, Chapter 01.04. Per our policy, sexual assault means an offense that meets any of the definitions to include rape, fondling, incest or statutory rape.

While Alaska saw the highest rates of sexual assault in the country in 2020, most assaults continue to go unreported. To make a report on campus, contact the Office of Equity and Compliance or the University Police Department. There are resources and support available, as well as rights and options under Title IX.
