We are excited to reach out to you on behalf of the Alaska Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program to invite you to apply for our Rural Immersion Institute of the North (RIIN). RIIN is an incredible opportunity for students to gain healthcare exposure in rural Alaska during the upcoming summer of 2024. The RIIN program offers a unique and immersive experience where participants can engage in a cultural immersion course, followed by hands-on training alongside healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds in rural Alaska communities. This program is a remarkable opportunity to expand knowledge, develop skills, and make a difference in underserved areas. 

Key Program Details

  • Program: Rural Immersion Institute of the North (RIIN)
  • Duration: June 20-30, 2024
  • Cultural Immersion: Participants will be immersed in rural Alaska's local culture and traditions, gaining a deeper understanding of the community's needs and challenges.
  • Hands-on Experience: Participants will be paired with healthcare facilities and community champions to experience rural healthcare in Alaska by participating in a variety of project based learning opportunities.
  • Alaskan Excursions: As part of the program, participants will have the chance to embark on an extraordinary adventure at Kayakers Cove, a rustic wilderness lodge located along beautiful Resurrection Bay, twelve water miles south of Seward, Alaska. Three days and two nights filled with kayaking, hiking, bonfires, saunas, and more! 

Program Costs

  • Out of State: $4,000
  • In-State: $3,175
  • Application Fee: $25 

Please note that the price includes in-state travel fees, excursions, and select meals. Flights to Alaska are not included.
