Biography

Upon obtaining her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance (Dec. 1992), Linda Porter began teaching as a temporary music teacher at the Anchorage Junior Academy. That experience prompted her to pursue both a Bachelor of Music, in Elementary Education (certified) and a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education, which she completed concurrently in 2001. Later, Linda set up a private voice home studio in 2006, and joined the UAA Music Department as an Adjunct Professor in the Fall of 2018. Her 30 years of teaching experience includes both private and public-school settings within the Anchorage area. She has worked with Middle School and High School choirs, hand chime choir, K-6 general music and small instrumental ensemble groups. Her main focus has been teaching private voice students. Some of her students have placed in NATS Alaska Competitions and in ASAA All-State Festivals including a Command performance. Linda has performed in various community groups including The Anchorage Opera, Anchorage Concert Chorus, Bel Canto Alaska and Frontier Baroque. Other performances include solo recitals, guest recitals and UAA Opera Productions under the direction of Dr. Mari Hahn, Symphony of Sounds and Alaska Festival of Music. Linda enjoys teaching her students, seeing them develop their voices both personally and artistically.
