Dean John StalveyI am delighted and deeply honored to serve as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. I invite you to explore the website and learn more about the college. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college in the UA system with 234 full-time faculty teaching and mentoring more the 4400 undergraduate and graduate students majoring and/or minoring in Arts and Sciences degree programs, as well as providing instruction for all UAA undergraduate students through general education courses. The large size of the College allows us to provide a diverse array of learning opportunities while the interactions with individual faculty allows us to provide a welcoming and intimate feel to the College. You will find that the faculty are dedicated to creating new learning opportunities and are accessible to student both in and out of the classroom. It is gratifying to note that many of these excellent teachers also are leaders in their disciplines and are known internationally for their scholarship, research, or creative activities. The students in the Arts and Sciences come from diverse backgrounds and experiences and bring with them a wide variety of talents and interests. One thing they seem to have in common is a commitment to learning the skills and acquiring the knowledge necessary to become a better citizen and to contribute to the public good. The friendly and welcoming staff members are the unsung heroes, providing significant support that allows both students and faculty to be successful.
